An empty slot is revenue you staffed for and never billed. Most practices underestimate it because it never shows up as a line item.

Where no-shows really come from
Most no-shows are not patients who decided against care. They forgot, the time stopped working, or they booked weeks ago while the problem felt urgent and never heard from you again. That makes no-shows a communication problem, and communication is fixable.
The practices with the lowest rates do three things: a confirmation at booking, reminders by text at two days and two hours, and an easy way to reschedule that does not require calling during office hours. Every patient who reschedules instead of disappearing is a slot you can refill. More detail is in how to reduce patient no-shows.
The slot after the no-show
The second half of the problem is the patient who missed and never rebooked. A same-day text offering a new time recovers a meaningful share of them. Without one, a no-show often becomes a lost patient, and their lifetime value goes with them.
Want your real number instead of an estimate?
We request an appointment the way a new patient would: your form, your phone line, your hours. Then we time every step and send a short written report in two business days. Reply speed, booking friction, and where inquiries go quiet. Free, no obligation.
