How to recruit therapists when everyone is hiring them.

Every behavioral health group is hiring therapists, and most are doing it with the same posting: mission, flexibility, competitive pay. Therapists have read it a hundred times. What they respond to is specificity on the four things that actually decide the job.

Here is what works, from recruiting for behavioral health platforms and groups.

The four things therapists decide on

  1. Caseload and documentation. Capped caseloads, admin support, and realistic session counts. If you have them, lead with numbers. If you do not, no ad copy fixes it.
  2. Employment model. W-2 with benefits or 1099 with a percentage. Half the decision. State it in the first three lines.
  3. Schedule control. Self-set panel hours, evenings optional not mandatory, telehealth or in-person or hybrid.
  4. Reply speed. A therapist comparing four offers interviews with whoever texted back first. Most groups reply in days.

Where to find them

Meta reaches working therapists by license and state inside employment ad rules; LinkedIn reaches psychologists and clinical leads; Google captures active searchers. Professional communities and licensure-board timing (newly licensed clinicians each cycle) are the underused channels. See behavioral health clinician recruitment.

The ad

"LCSW or LPC, telehealth, FL and GA. W-2, capped caseload of 25, self-set hours, full admin support. Apply in 2 minutes, hear back in 1." That is the whole ad. Everything else is decoration.

The follow-up

A reply within 60 seconds that answers caseload, comp structure, and schedule from an approved bank, then books the interview. Therapists notice the difference between an organization that answers at 11 PM and one that emails "please call our office."

Nurture for the shortage market

Wrong-timing therapists (not ready, finishing supervision hours, waiting on licensure) are the largest pool and the one nobody follows up with. A monthly touch and a check-in at the licensure date books interviews six months later at zero acquisition cost.

Common questions

Straight answers

How do I recruit therapists when there is a shortage?
Compete on the specifics therapists weigh: caseload caps, documentation support, employment model, and schedule control, stated plainly in the ad. Reach clinicians who are not actively searching, and reply within minutes when they raise a hand.
Should therapist job ads say W-2 or 1099?
Yes, in the first three lines. The employment model is half the decision and hiding it wastes interviews on both sides.
How do I recruit PMHNPs for telepsychiatry?
Campaigns segmented by state licensure, creative built on self-set panel hours and comp, and follow-up that books interviews the same night clinicians apply. Telepsychiatry PMHNP roles respond especially well to fast replies.
What does behavioral health recruitment marketing cost?
Provido engagements run $5,000 to $8,000 per month plus a one-time $7,500 setup, with ad spend billed direct at no markup.
